ok once again i am here asking questions! i have a ps2 v.7 w/ matrix infinity chip and am trying to figure out exactly where to start to play my backup iso games from my usb flash drive! it is easier than dealing with dvd's that my children will eventually scratch and destroy!

    Thanks in advance!

basically you need a boot program.something that can load the game of your usb stick.Don't know exactly how its done as i have a unmodded PS2 that i havnt played for about 6months.have a look around the ps2 sections on this site and you should find instructions.

You need to download OpenPS2Loader 0.7. You can get it from sksapps.com. You can load it off of your flash drive with ulaunchelf. To get your game on the flash drive you first need to rip the iso to your computer. You can do that with dvd decrypter. There is a whole section on that in this forum. If you need it on a flash drive, you have to get USBUtil v2.0. Open it up and click "file", then click "create game from ISO". Browse for your iso that you made with dvd decrypter, on the left side. On the right side select your flash drive. Type a name for your game to show up in openps2loader in the name box. Then hit create. It may take a little while, depending on how big your iso is. Once it is finished, plug your flash drive into your ps2 and load up openps2loader. Browse to "usb games" and select the game that you put on your flash drive. Start playin it.
Also, you probably need a pretty big flash drive to get more than one game on it. Each game is about 4 gigabytes, but it varies. Hope that helps.

firts of all, a big applause to "gam3r21"! Received today my Memory Card with FMBC installed on it, and spent an awful lot on forums trying to get the answer, and only you were clear enough about what to do. Simple, direct, clear. Thanks again.

One question. Will any USB HDD be enough, or is a self powred one better?

    Sorry for the late reply.
If you have a slim, the usb ports on the front are USB 2.0. If you have a fat, the usb ports on the front are USB 1.1. (I'm not sure what version 7 is, slim?)
So if you have a fat ps2 you would be better off just installing a hard drive, because of the usb transfer speed and the fact that your game would lag. A slim has the same amout of usb data transfer as you home computer so no lagging there.
To answer your question, you can actually use either one, but there are more problems with the ones that dont have a seperate power cord. If i was going to do this, i would get one with a seperate power source.
