I just got my Magic 3.1 chip today, and plan to install it tonight.

But I need help in helping identifying my PS2. Here are the details:
    8 screws on bottom
Caution Electric shock stamped on bottom
    Serial # is: U1414xxx

So which version/motherboard do I have?

Also, I see that there are different directions for installing the chip. What is called NO-GAP, and other is GAP.

What is the difference, and which would should I use?

    Thanks for the help!

Go ahead go! Check it first then read on...

    Ok. now.

The "gap" and "no gap" refer to your PS2's bios chip. Both boards are general the same except for this feature. The only way to really tell is by opening up the PS2 and checking the board.

The PS2 bios chip has like 22 legs coming off each side of it all in a straight line. The "Gap" chip has 11, then a small space, then eleven more on each side. Hence a "GAP" in the middle of a chip.

Anyway here is more information on a gap non gap board.. Has pics too

    Good luck!
