You cannot just drop a DVD drive into a console and expect it to work. The board and drive are married. You must dump the keys from the ORIG DVD drive and spoof them to the new drive.

A console's motherboard and DVD drive's PCB have matching keys.
Now your keys don't match because the DVD drive is from another console.
Extract the key from the broken drive.
Flash that key to the working drive.
Now the keys match and games should boot.

    OR

If the two drives are the same, you can simply swap the PCBs of the two drives instead of flashing.

If you use this 360 on LIVE, make sure that the dvd brand (lite-on, hitachi, samsung, benq) is the same as the broken drive. If not, then you would need to search for a drive on ebay ~$30. If you spoof (disguise) one brand drive with a different brand drive, it bricks your console. As Modking30 has said, the motherboard and dvd drive are paired. They have a 32 digit encrypted code key that has to match on both the motherboard and the dvd drive. If one character is off, it won't play games. You need to do a little bit of research. There are plenty of questions you may have that are already answered in the ultimate stickies. If you've never heard the term "flash" in computer lingo, then ask a friend that is more experienced to lend a hand. A good manual to start out with is jungleflasher.pdf. Google it and download the manual to get a better understanding of the program that you'll be using to flash your "new" drive with the 32 digit alpha-numeric code from your broken drive.
