I recently burned ps2 games on a dvd-r disc. My friend's ps2 is able to play them while mine can't. My ps2 is modded with messiah 2 chip. Is there any reason why my ps2 can't read dvd-r disc? And is there a few ps2 that can't read dvd-r? My ps2 is able to read dvd-rom disc without problems.
    Thanks

To make things clear, it just goes into the red screen. I just come across something in the FAQ list, it says
    Q) I want to modify my PS2, should I?
    A) If you want to then yes, but before you do anything else, make sure your PS2 can read DVD-Rs by burning a movie (that you own) on a DVD-R and try it out in your PS2, if it's a good backup and it doesn't work on your PS2, then don't get a mod, you are one of the unfortunate people with a PS2 that can't read DVD-R (no, DVD+Rs won't work either)....
So could it be that my ps2 is the one of those which can't read dvd-r?

it is a possibility but before you give up altogether it might be worth giving your laser a clean and see if that helps, you could also try adjusting the laser angle and see if that helps any, here's a link to a site that has more info on cleaning and adjusting the laser http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm

Well, it can read other dvd-rom disc like i said in my first post, so could this affect dvd-r disc instead of dvd-rom disc? Because it is kinda strange when it can read dvd-rom with no problems and have error reading dvd-r. Btw, it can also read backup cd-r with no prob. But i would try some cleaning of lens to see if it helps.
Anyway, i was just wondering why there is some ps2 which can't read backup dvd-r even after modding?

Whoa, there are definitely PS2's that read +R and not -R. Is yours a later model? Try out +R.

Well, i tried both -R and +R and still not results. Will swap magic be able to fix this by any chance? mine is V8 ps2. Or could it be problem with my mod chip?
