I've just purchased Samsung 52x 252S CD writer. Installed the included Nero 5.5 software. The hardware is working only as a CD-ROm, whenever I try to burn a media, it ejects the tray with a message that the media doesn't have enough space. I've tried this with a lot of blank media and still the same problem.

Tried to burn 10 MB of data(MP3s) still won't do.

    Config>>

    OS : Win 2000
PIII 700 MHZ Intel 810B chipset
Optical drives : Just this one(Samsung)
    FDD : Yes
    Harddrives : 1 internal 20GB

    Any assistance will be appreciated

    Thanks in advance!

Make the one who sold you that PC revise your hardware.

Try this and see what happens:

    Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.

If that doesn't help then you may want to install an ASPI layer for which ForceASPI is a good one. Here's a link to the download and instructions:

    Thanks Nephilim,

What I did yesterday, was to get hold of an Adaptect CD with included DirectCD. During installation, it says " No writing medium detected on this machine".

Nevertheless, I uinstalled Adaptec, reinstalled Nero v5.5

Went to the place from where I purchased this burner. Took 2 Sony CD-Rs, 2 Moser Baer CD-Rs, 2 Writex CD-Rs, 2 Samsung CD-Rs, and 2 Frontech CD-Rs, all 52x

Guess what only Sony worked and the rest when tried, the message was, not adequate space and poof, the media is ejected.

    What could be causing this????

    Thanks again.

I'd try updating the firmware for the drive and if that doesn't help I'd return the burner as defective. You shouldn't be having these problems. Here's a link to firmware:

    Thanks a lot Nephilim,

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I'd already updated the firmware from R952 (Originally) to R953(from Samsung Site).

Now do you recommend returning the drive???

    Please reply soon, mate

    Thanks again
    Sid

I'd return it but as a final test you can try the burner in another system to see if it does the same thing :)

That was exactly what I had in mind. Though I still don't understand why it would not burn any other media apart from Sony

    Any ways,

    Thanks so much Nephilim

    Nephilim,

Thank you so much for your assistance. I did replace the drive and it's now burning dang nearly every media I use.

    Thanks again
