My ps2 plays through my stereo, there's a headphone jack on the stereo, so that'd work.

Have you tried (female 'RCA' to headphone) jack & just plug straight into the red or white or both out of the back of the playstation cord. The voltage will be low and no volume control. It will work though. Does your TV have a phones jack (Other alternative)

No ? Meaning you don't have a jack on your TV , or you haven't tried a female RCA etc ? The female RCA to 3.5mm / 5mm headphone jack are available at $2 / junk shops. For $2-$5

your best bet is to use the RCA to headphone converter. Otherwise you need to pump the ps2 through a sterio of some sort that uses headphones. And it sounds like you dont want to spend any money on fixing this "problem". So this way would be the cheapest. There is no FREE way to do it.
