Lo guys, I'm new(not to the computer thing. but DVD burning and this forum). I just bought this Plextor PX-716A drive. Well. I have it on my second IDE port. Set to master with the black(master) portion of the IDE cable plugged into it. (nothing else on the IDE cable). I did the Version 104 Firmware Update. I still cant get it to work. I get an error when trying an mp3 cd of mine:

    "D:\ is not accessible

The request could not be performed because of an I/0 device error"

I have checked Bios. But my computer sees the drive. Knows the model actually. but it gives me that error still. I run XP Home. I'm gonna go look in BIOS see if I see anything screwed up. Thx in advance for the help

    Update:

I've switched out cables in and out. All my IDE Cables work - I've tested them on my Hard Drive(s)(different variations). Cables are fine.

Try changing the jumper on your plextor to CSL (cable select) then see what happens..

Is it plugged into the end of the cable or the middle?

Also try an original CD or DVD not a copied one..

You have done this I'm sure but just incase...

Turned on Secondary IDE in the bios/cmos?

What does it show in your device manager?

Red line on cable ribbon is next to power plug on back of DVD burner.

Red line on ribbon cable also matchs the red line on Primary plug on the mb.

    W00t forums are back up.
    Anyway. update:

I now have the drive on the master part of the IDE cable with jumpers set for CS(Cable Select).

In Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives:
    2 entries:
    -Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CDROM Device
    -Plextor DVDR PX-716A
    (It sees it)
Only one way to put it into my mobo so it's correct.

When I boot up I see the drive along with my HD(on a different cable)

The DVD(software that came with the drive) disk is not being read either.

When in My computer I see the drive. I right click for properties and it comes up with the right stuff(Drive info).

    Error in 'Event Viewer':
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.

CdRom0 is the master and it shows as a controller error.

Try one more thing before you yell at Best Buy.

Try putting your DVD Burner on your primary IDE along with your HD. HD is set to master and set your burner to Slave, not cable select. Also remove the ribbon from your secondary plug on your MB. Reboot and see what happens. If it works this way you DO NOT want to keep it this way. It is only for testing your burner once and for all. Let us know and good luck.
