I am planning on buying a new DVD burner.

Please give your feedback on Plextor 800A?
    Is it compatible with Nero?
    Any better options?

Thanks for all your feedback in assisting me with purchasing a good, reliable DVD burner.

I've been using samsung for years...always quiet and reliable. Make sure you keep up with firmware updates.

IS Plextor 800A compatible with NERO Burning software?
I hate Roxio and refuse to use it.

    Please advise.

Any new burner is compatible with any software. It is media that causes problems. Make sure that you download and install the latest firmware for that Plextor.

If there is one, for that model, it will be on Plextor's website.

You might want to look elsewhere. Plextor's glory days are over as they can no longer compete with the cheap stuff.

The PX-800A appears to be a rebadged Sony-NEC drive, not my first choice in burners.

They aren't going to put out a firmware update, if one is not needed. It is highly doubtful that firmware is the reason that you can't play a DVD. I would be more inclined to thinking that it is a bumb disc with read errors.
