    Plex owners,
The latest Safedisc 3.15 (Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time) and SecuROM 4.8.x(Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne, Mace Griffen Bounty Hunter and Spell Force) are causing major headaches for those attempting to make backups. I have 30+ errors(not coasters) trying to backup Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time as I have tried literally every "dup" program there is. Hell, I can't even get a backup to launch using emulation but I can get the game to launch using Daemon Tools (mount image>enable Safedisc emulation).
I'll post some logs and I'm asking in your spare time to post on this thread whether you had success or a failure. If you need help with the logs please "PM"(Private message) me and I'll be glad to help!

    Shoey :)

This is a Blindwrite 5 (BW5) post looks like. If you have BlindWrite 5 installed on your pc and wan't to know where it's located, simply go to the directory to where you installed BW5. (Example): C:\Program Files\VSO\Blindwrite5\BW5 (text log).Although I don't own a Plex Premium or Plex PX-708A dvd burner, here is a BW5 log post. The test pc game is Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time) using Blindwrite Tweaker 1.5.0

Backup failed to play in my Lite ON LTD 165H dvd-rom.

Prince Of Persia:Sands Of Time is Safedisc 3.15 cd protected and very few people have been able to make successful backups. I can "mount the image" using Daemon Tools and the game plays just fine by using Safedisc emulation.

Shoey, I've read that when using BW5 the topology extraction isn't required for Safedisc but is required for SecuROM. Can you verify this for me?

Also is the "failure to extract topology" a known issue for BW5? I've been messing around trying to backup a SecuROM 4.84 disc and the topology fails on all three of my drives.

Any speculation for what protection Half-Life 2 will use? I've got a voucher for it and it's supposed to be released March 1. I can't wait to see if I can dupe it.

(I'll be getting COD back Friday, will post logs asap)

    Cheers

    That is correct Neph
Blindwrite 5 5.08 is a beta tester and has topo bugs.Toshiba drives are not "compatable" with Blindwrite 5 and fail to extract topo. Be sure that you're using Blindwrite 5 5.07 and if using Blindwrite Tweaker, then be sure that you put in the SecuROM 4.8.4 protected cd(play disc). In the Topo tab folder be sure always extract is enabled and in basic setting tab folder, choose read and set extract speed to 24x then down at the bottom run Blindwrite.

    1) What are the brand name drives that are failing to extract topo?
    2) What Blindwrite 5 version are you using?
    3) What SecuROM pc game are you backing up?
    4) Have you tried Blindwrite 5(without Blindwrite Tweaker) and does Blindwrite fail to extract topo?

Nobody knows m8 but my guess would be SecuROM 4.x or 5.x

    Shoey :)

    Afterdawn forum members,
For those of you having troubles backing up SecuROM 4.x with the latest Blindwrite 5.07, simply uninstall>reboot>and rollback to Blindwrite 5 5.1

    Blindwrite 5 5.1
    http://vso.nerim.net/BlindWrite5_setup_51.exe

    Please post your BW5 logs..

    Shoey,

1: My PX-708A, Premium and LTD-166S were all failing to extract topo.

    2: Using BW 5.5.7

    3: Postal 2/SecuROM 4.84

4: BW 5.5.7 was failing the topo extract with and without Tweaker. The strange thing was that when I tried to knock the topo extract down to 4X with Tweaker , it would default back to 8X. Any ideas as to why?

I've since rolled back to BW5.1 and will post back.

Remember to use Blindwrite tweaker m8. I can confirm that COD(Call Of Duty) is Safedisc 3.10 and Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time is Safedisc 3.15

Using BW5Tweaker, I set the max read at 24X, max write at 8X and topo extract at 8X. I've run through these exact settings and if you'll notice in the log BW keeps setting the topo extract to max read and the resulting disc is unplayable in my LTD-166S. What am I missing?

You're not missing a thing m8. Blindwrite 5 by "default" extracts topo at fast speed despite using the Blindwrite Tweaker. I've informed the Blindwrite team about this matter but they choose to do nothing about it (at this time). I don't see your write log? Did your Plextor PX-708A write VariRec(Varirate)? (using Blindwrite Tweaker 1.5.0\Topology tab folder\write with Plextor Premium)? A post from Afterdawn forum member "WildBill" using Blindwrite 5 5.0.1.112 backing up Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne (UK version)=SecuROM 4.85 cd protected

According to VSO Blindwrite team member kamikazee, all must use Blindwrite Tweaker to make backups of SecuROM 4.85& up.(not good)

Very interesting logs, thank you. I'm not sure why it keeps saying my writers aren't premiums. Once again, I'm I missing something or is anyone else having this error that you know of? I would be very interested in trying 5.0.1.112 if you don't mind. I'll need to set up OE (never needed to use it till now) and will e-mail you when I get it going.

It sure doesn't speak well for BW if they don't want to do anything about the topo speeds :( I'm getting 98% accuracy at max speed and am interested to know what improvement could be made at 8X.

Thanks for all the helpful info. After getting a handle on duping DVDs I need a new quest!

    Take care

Ok this time launch Blindwrite Tweaker and in the Topo tab folder, select Automatic m8. I hope this works darn it.. (hehe) If Blindwrite burns the image then when all done, look at the BW5 log to see if your Plextor PX-708A burned "varirate(VariRec).

Got shot down again :( I used Tweaker to set topo to 'automatic' but it still wrote without 'varirate/varirec'. Disc was unplayable in my 166. Are others running into this with the newer versions of BW?

I forgot to knock the write speed down but it's kind of moot since it didn't use varirec anyway. Suggestions?

    Houston, we have liftoff.

My Premium made a successful copy of Postal 2 (SecuROM 4.84) that works perfectly in my LTD-166.

I used BW5Tweaker to set the max read to 24X.

It seems for whatever reason BW5 doesn't recognize the PX-708 as being 'varirate' capable. That's a damn shame too.

Your log says your wrote varirate (VariRec) m8. So what exact settings did you use?
    Congrats Neph!

As a test, could you kindly uninstall Blindwrite 5 5.05>reboot>install Blindwrite 5 5.1 and use the same settings and see if you can get a working backup m8? How many cd's to Postal 2?

My last log was for my Premium :) I tried the Premium because BW 5.05.120 kept giving me the 'writer not a premium' error when I tried it with my PX-708A.

Postal 2 is a single disc.

Here's what I've run into in a nutshell,

BW 5.5.7: Failed topo extract on PX-708A, Premium and LTD-166S. I couldn't get anywhere with it.

BW 5.1: Gave me the 'writer not a premium' error for both my PX-708A and my Premium.

BW 5.05: Gave me the 'writer not a premium' error for the PX-708A, but made a perfect copy on my Premium (my last log).

So basically 5.5 is useless because it can't even extract topo, 5.1 is useless because it won't use varirate with either of my Plextors, and 5.0 will only use varirate with my Premium and not the PX-708A.

Where do we go from here, boss?

Hey Shoey, I just made a successful copy of Call Of Duty on my PX-708A. I used BW5.05 and BW5Tweaker with max read at 24X and max write at 4X.
