i have 1 picture to show you, but since portable dvd players are moved alot it could be that the reader is jammed, a piece of "film like" plastic moves it up and down rapidly to read the disc, if it gets budged to the side then it can move, make sure its strait and untwisted http://www.dansdata.com/images/cursor/open440.jpg look here right under the spiral that spins the disc is the reader, your reader may also be dirty, you can clean it with the same material used to clean glasses,
