Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder. Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC). This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. If you receive the "Power calibration error", the cause will be either poor media quality, poor power conditions, firmware out of date, or a defective recorder. Solution: This error can be caused in conjunction with some (cheap) medias, try burning at a lower speed or switch to another brand of discs because it looks like the burner isn't recognizing the brand you're currently using. Update the firmware of your recorder. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest version. If you can't solve this error by using another brand of media or updating the firmare, then try out these steps , if they fail, the drive is possibly defective. The burner should be connected to secondary IDE port/channel as a master and a CD-ROM/burner as a slave, don't connect the DVD burner to the same IDE channel that your HDD is connected to. Try different configurations, such as connecting the CD-ROM/burner to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder/DVD burner connected to the secondary IDE bus as master. Try uninstalling nero, also clean registry. (use the cleaning tools from NERO: General Clean Tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html Registry Checker and DriverClean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html InCD Clean Tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html Reinstall the latest version of nero that works (version 7.0.1.4b seems to of been removed) http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php More than one installed burning software can cause problems so install only one. You can deactivate for test (only with Windows XP) "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service", go to menu "start" > "settings" > "administration" > "services", search "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service", rightclick and deactivate "starttyp", after try burning again.
