I've been using my laptop for more than 2 years, and I guess I've never used a DVD+R type media before.. I put the disc in, try to burn something and I get a Power Calibration Error.. I tried this at 8x.

So then I tried burning on another computer (multisession), which I successfully did. Then I put the disc into my laptop, just to see what would happen when I continued the multisession, and I got an Illegal Disc error at 8x. However, going back and trying again, I was able to continue multisession at 2.4x. I guess slowing it down solved the Illegal Disc problem. But why?

Anyway, I went back and tried burning something from scratch, not just by continuing a multisession disc, to see if my problem was solved. I got the Power Calibration Error again at 4x (never even tried 8x). But when I tried burning at 2.4x, the recorder was able to burn about 33%, but stopped right there and gave me the error again. Why could this be happening? Can it be solved? Help would be really appreciated.. Thanks..

Oh, and here's the log from the process which failed at 33%.. (It's multisession, I know, but I also tried the same with no multisession)

    Hi.

Try updating your burner's firmware to the newest version available 1.11 available at the link below:

    ftp://ftp.vaio.sony.co.jp/pub/vaio/download/SP-011700-00/MTFOPD-01170000-UN.exe

Since you seem to burning an ISO image file, try ImgBurn, a free burner. You Nero is a little long in the tooth. Is this an OEM lite version of Nero?

    http://www.imgburn.com

Power calibration errors can be due to media, firmware, or hardware failure. You're using decent media, so that leaves firmware or faulty hardware. If you update your firmware and try Imgburn and neither solves your problem, the likelihood of a hardware problem increases. Laptop burners are finicky and unfortunately Panasonic makes crappy ones in my opinion.

I forgot to say that I'm using an Asus laptop. Will that firmware upgrade work for me, since it's from Sony's website?

To answer your questions, I wasn't burning an image file, I was just burning some mp3s to DVD. And I'm using Nero 6 Ultra, not a Lite version..
