I took my dvd drive out and brought it to a friend to put in his xbox so he could put evox on his

i have a sammy and he has a thompson (he could get his drive to work)

i came back down and plugged my dvd back in
i stuck 1 of my games in and copied it to hard drive-it froze in the middle so i ejected the disk/turned xbox off and went back to my friend to play a game with him

turned my xbox on and it shut off by itself immediately tried again same result

unplugged the hard drive and it worked like it should have
plugged hard drive into my computer and it spun up just fine

plugged a cd rom into the power for the hard drive from the xbox and it spun up fine

tried booting with modchip off and same result (nothing)
corrupted bios? hard drive problem? power supply problem?
    any ideas?

i have alot on the hard drive that i don't want to loose
any work will be appreciated greatly

If it powers off like that, then it shouldnt have anything to do with your harddrive or your dvddrive. Perhaps some wires are touching somewhere. Maybe try to wiggle you power cord that goes to the back of your xbox...Mine doesnt fit very well and I have to do that sometimes. Maybe you dropped something in the xbox and it is making contact with some wires. When it shuts down like that it usually is doing so because there are some wires touching where they are not supposed to be.
