I'm new at this so bear with me. Why are the 4X DVD-R's more expensive than the 8X in the same media brand? Case in point: Verbatim @ Best Buy 4X = $50 as to 8X = $40. This isn't the only place I discovered the price differences. I also spotted it on Rima.com with the TY's.

Hello grun123 and welcome to AD. Your question of price difference of 4x and 8x verbatims is simple. It is what manufacturer made this spindle or pack?Verbatim, maxell's,sony, memorex, and just about every brand name out there is made by multiple manufacturers. The higher price are usually the ones made in Japan by Mcc. The cheaper ones are are made in taiwan, phillipines, australia, ireland, and austria. The higher quality is preferred here at AD as you a whole lot less errors, better playing in stand alone players, and what members are finding out now, Not breaking down as fast as the cheaper media. Verbatim + are my favorite.Maxell's are the same. - formats made in japan, + format made in taiwan. Same price, nearly identical packaging, a heck of a quality difference.I have no trouble using 8x and burn it at 4x.Check out http:www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Also download a free trial of: http://www.dvdinfopro.com >This will tell you who made this media and look up the code at digitalfaq.com.
