problem playing 16:9 dvd on 16:9 screen

    i just bought a 22" widescreen (16:9) monitor with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, it works great but when i play a 16:9 widsecreen dvd i still have the black bars on top and bottom of the screen. does anyone have an answer what i can do?

    uhm! fgha, 16:9 dvd size not always full size of your screen (but some of them does full size) ,,there are spare space on top and bottom for subtile..when subtitle turn on it's will not appear on the movie picture..i hope i wrong!!!

    Widescreen movies on DVD frequently have an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, which is wider than 1.78 (16:9). To accomodate this black bars are added to the top and bottom of the frame.

    but the bars are very big on top and bottom not small they look the same as a fullscreen monitor.

    fgha, i have that same problem!!!its kinda annoying isnt it
