I have tried looking all over the forums but what I really after is if someone could redirect me to a link here at Afterdawn or another site that explains why I am only able to burn a dvd+r and not a dvd-r,I think it has something to do with my burner but I am not sure . The program I use is Nero 6 ultra . Ed

Your burner only writes to +R. That's what the Dvd+rw means.

Writes to DVD+R Media at 8X
Writes to DVD+RW Media at 4X
Writes to CD-R Media at 32X
Writes to CD-RW Media at 16X
    12X Max DVD Playback Performance

    DVW58E 8X DVD+R/RW DRIVE

TEAC’s new 8X DVD+R/RW Drive writes at 8X speeds to DVD+R and at 4X speeds to DVD+RW media. The TEAC 8X DVD-Recorder utilizes an IDE/ATAPI interface for easy integration and upgrades. It supports a variety of DVD-Recording applications.

You need one that is either a Dual burner or -R.

Keep in mind there is nothing wrong with +R. Although there are minor differences with +/-R media, overall it isn't as much a factor now. Most newer stand alones will play either. Your +R burner will be just fine for now. I've been seeing the new Dual+/- burners that are also 16x double layer going for $60-70 on ebay (Nec 3500A). So when it's time to upgrade, it should be pretty cheap.
