Problem with Hdd Explorer

I downloaded Hdd Explorer and burned it onto a cd using both nero and burn at once at 4x. I have a dms3 chip in my v4 ps2 Flashed with Upgrade 2.3. I go to the browser and put the cd in and the cd icon comes up on the screen but when I try to open it goes to a black screen for a few seconds and and returns to the browser.

My other cd-r work fine(Snes-Station, Madden 2002, DMS UPGRADE 2.3) The only ones that don't work are Dms Explorer and Hdd Explorer.
    1. Do I have to install Dms Explorer before Hdd Explorer to worked?
    2. Does the hard drive have to be formatted before I install hdd explorer?
    3. Would a loose wire cause this?
    Thanks for your help.

DMS Explorer works now, but when I try to format the hard drive with DMS hdd format it says Hdd not connected. I'm not sure how to set the hard drive to master. I have a maxtor 60 GB Model#96147H6. Does the Flash Upgrade 2.3 work with the hard drive because I heard that it has some problems? Would a loose wire in cause this maybe I should open the ps2 and check?

    Ok thanks a lot.
I'll try and see if it works.
Is there a way to see if your hard drive is broke, because I bought mine off of ebay.
    I hope it works.

The only way I can thing of is to hook it up to your computer as a slave, and use partition magic to format. Of course you'll have to reformat for PS2 later, but you'll find out if it's any good....

I tried this and it says partition table bad and doesn't start up. I guess I bought a bad hard drive.

I would try "Windows HDL Image Install Program" and try and format. If that doesn't work, I guess it's POOP !

I think flexmix read your header "problem with hdd explorer", and thought HDD Explorer was a browser for PS2 Internet Surfing.

Sounds like your HD has some bad sectors. Have you ran a surface scan from windows?

The error code 1781 says format error....

I'am all confused as to what you are trying to do, put the drive in your pc, unplug your os drive and
plug in only the problem drive. unplug all drives you use on your pc.Get "Wipe" put it on a win98 bootdisk and at the a: prompt type wipe 0(zero) to write zeros on the whole hard drive.wipe will write zeros , remove all partitions Then you are ready to format the drive.
Also get the brand of hard drive, model & serial number,

Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the disk drive utility to creat a bootdisk to test the drive. The test will tell you if the drive is bad.

You may also use "spinrite" To repair and/or recover a hard drive(it takes about 24 hours). In windows get to a dos prompt...........In xp
go to start > run > type "cmd", hit enter, in the black box that appears, type chkdsk /f you will be told that it can not run now, and ask you if you would like chkdsk /f to run the next time you reboot. Type "Y" and type "exit" and reboot.
the "f" is for fix. it will do alot more than a surface scan.

I have tried this but it doesn't reconize the drive.

I will try this to. I haven't ran a surface scan yet.
