i dont know if this should go in the divx/xvid forum or this one because im not sure what the problem is.

i use no. 1 dvd ripper to convert dvds to WMV. now you are thinking, um dude rip to avi. well i would but that where the problem is.

i rip a dvd into an avi file. it codes into xvid. when i try to play it with VLC player or windows media player there is no audio and the video is quite choppy.

i have tried various dvd to avi programs but all with the same result. now i can use my dads laptop and use no. 1 dvd ripper and code into xvid and can play it fine on my laptop.

here are a few things i have tried.
    -reinstall no. 1 dvd ripper
    -reinstall latest xvid codec
    -use different media players

so any ideas what i can do to fix this?

oh and i forgot to add.

if i use my dads laptop to convert dvd to avi. burn the files onto a disc, then transfer over to my computer and try to play them with VLC player. i get a message saying that the avi file is damaged and VLC will try to repair it if i want it to. i always say no because it plays just fine.

    ok that is all.
