problem with widescreen monitor

    i just bought the acer 22" widescreen (16:9) monitor with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, it works great but when i play a 16:9 widsecreen dvd i still have the black bars on top and bottom of the screen. does anyone have an answer what i can do?

    Hmm... I see the resolution of the monitor, but what res are you running on your comp? Also, what program are you using to play dvd's with?

    the same res. and i tried a few prog. inc. powerdvd

    1680x1050 is *not* 16:9...it would have to be more like 1870x1050, and that's why you still have bars. you need to run another resolution.

    the screen info says its a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1680 x 1050 resolution how is that possible?

    tv widescreen and computer widescreen are not the same thing. in the world of computer monitors, there is an astounding variety of resolutions to choose from. either crop your movie with the dvd player's zoom function or deal with the black bars.
