Hi all, I have a Samsung 16X dual layer, and this was burning fin at 8X until a few disks ago. It now fails at 37% on each 8X disk, but burns fine on 4X. This dies on both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, so I'm guessing it's not a Nero/ DVD Shrink problem?? Error thrown below: is this a buffer underrun or something? 20:03:33 #22 Text 0 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 7827 ---- DVD Structure: Physical Format Information (00h) ---- Layer: 0, Address: 0 (0 h), AGID: 0; Length: 2050 Book Type: DVD-R (2), Part Version: 5 Disc Size: 120 mm, Maximum Rate: <not specified> (F h) Number of Layers: 1, Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP), Layer Type: recordable Linear Density: 0,267 um/bit, Track Density: 0,74 um/track Starting Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 30000 h (DVD-ROM, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) End Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 0 h End Sector Number in Layer 0: 0 h Data in Burst Cutting Area (BCA) does not exist Media Specific: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 20:03:44 #23 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 318 20:03:44.140 - TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B : Queue again later (Intervall : 5msec) 20:08:35 #24 SCSI -1135 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1361 SCSI Exec, HA 1, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x05890000 Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR) Sense Code: 0x0C Sense Qual: 0x00 CDB Data: 0x2A 0x00 0x00 0x0C 0x82 0xA0 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 0x00 0x00 Sense Data: 0x71 0x00 0x03 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0C 0x00 20:08:35 #25 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 335 Write error 20:08:35 #26 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 227 all writers idle, stopping conversion
Burning dvds at 8X is not a good idea. Too many chances of burn errors. Most members suggest 4X max for dvd backups. If you must burn a 8X you need very good blank media. The cheap stuff won't work right. Jerry
I would try a different batch of media as there maybe a slight fault on the media your using. This may be causing the disc to error out when burning at a higher speed. If the new media burn ok at 8 speed then you could just finish of the old batch burning them at 4 speed.
Thanks for the advice guys. Upon further investigation this looks like a problem with the Nero-supplied WNASPI32.DLL. It seems to have a problem with buffer underruns and supplying data quick enough to the burner at 8x. A pity, it seemed to work okay for 2/8 burns. When viewing the buffer status during a burn at 8x it ofter gets to 0% full and then sometimes comes back to finish the burn. Will stick to 4x for now.
