I've never had a problem burning DVD's before using the DVD Shrink and burning with NERO. But today I received this message, saying burn failed: PLEASE HELP! Thank you! Looks like this is where your problems started. I'm not sure what the exact cause is, but I think it's media related. What kind of media are you using? Have you tried different media? Did you just switch media before getting this error?
Well, my Nero "demo trial period" ran out. So I installed a different version of Nero. Could this be the problem. The Nero version I installed says it may not be compatible with Windows. I am REALLY confused right now! Then instead of using NERO, I used DVD Shrink and it said, "Burn using DVD Decrypter"... but then there was an error and wouldn't allow me to do that either! Please help! I currently have DVD Shrink 3.2 and DVD Decrypter. What else am I missing? I also have a "Record Now" burning device ... please let me know what I need to do to burn a DVD. This is pretty frustrating, since I never had problems before
what movie is this? You should've been just fine with setting Shrink to burn with Decrypter. Try to burn with that recordnow program. Is it RecordNow DX or RecordNow Max? I have DX and it's ok. Here's how to burn with the DX version: In Shrink where you told it to burn with Decrypter, tell it to just put the files in a folder on your hard drive. Then use Recordnow DX and burn a data disc. Now click Add files or folder and find the VIDEO_TS folder where Shrink put the movie. Add the whole folder, not just the files inside the folder. Burn and you should be good. Again, what media are you using?
Hi lagirl, So your trial ran out and you switched to an earlier version? Do you plan on buying Nero? If not you should move on to something else. You may want to get rid of one of those Nero Image drives as well. Why do you have two? Rather than work on Nero lets work on getting Shrink/Decrypter going. squizzle asked you about media type. I noticed that no media was listed in your Nero Log which is wrong. So did you switch media? What are you using now? Shrink/Decrypter work well together. You said you recieved an error. What was the error message? Some movies have "structure protection" so the won't rip properly with Shrink. We know what most of those movies are so if you tell us, we can figure out just what you need to do to get the thing copied.
Hello - Thanks for all your replies! I decided to ditch NERO and use the Decrypter/DVD Shrink combo. I've successfully burned 2 DVD's.. but when I tried to "decrypt" "Officer and A Gentleman", it would go up to 99% and says this: W 23:06:54 Failed to read Sector 4127424 - Unrecovered Read Error and I have to abort. Can you please tell me how to fix this to where it will complete to 100%? Also, about the media, I'm using DVD+R - Office Depot brand. They have worked just fine for me in the past. Thank you. - carissa
Good Job, you got it to work. Your unrecovered read error may be due to a damaged original, right at the outside edge. Are you willing to lose the chapters and menus? If that does not bother you. Try Re-authoring in Shrink. This will let you use the Set Start?End Frames feature. This allows you to trim the end of the movie so you may be able to trim off the bad area. I made this presentaton to make a short clip but if you are trimming the movie you are just making a longer clip. http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/tutorial001.html Glad you can get that O.D. media to work. I don't suppose it will last all that long though. Get some Taiyo Yuden or Ritek G0-4, G05. If you can buy on line, its a lot cheaper. Try meritline or Supermedia store
Thank you for the tip on "Officer and A Gentleman", I'll have to give that a try! And the Office Depot discs state "30 years of shelf life".... I'll take my chances. I'm a college student & my funds are limited, I can always copy onto better discs in the next couple of years. Thanks again!
I should have suggested that you look closely at the disc and clean it as well. My method is to use a mild detergent spray of some sort (No Ammonia) and then wipe from the center to the outside edge, across the tracks. I always shoot a bit of canned air at it when I'm done to get any dust particles off. Good luck, Frank
Fasfrank & Squizzle - Is it ok to burn to Office Depot brand now, and then burn to Sony or a better brand in a couple of months? Since y'all are telling me the shelf-life on Office Depot isn't that great?
Lagirl: If you have a +/- burner, switch to Office Depot brand -R disks. From all the times I have bought these from Office Depot they have identified as G04 which are Ritek branded. lagirl: Also remove your nero serial number on your first initial post. It starts with bu1a.....
lagirl: you posted to my reply as I was editing to add a note about your serial number. In case you missed that point, edit it off before someone steals it....
Sure, burn away. But I do encourage you to try different media (good media too), as I think this is your problem. The best from what people here say are Taiyo Yuden and can be purchased through supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com.
Well its not like we can go into the future a few years and tell you if it will still work but chances are it won't last as long as "quality" media that has been discussed. There have been some studies done because DVD is a considered format for the archiving of public documents. Here in the states, the U.S. National Institute of Standards has done some testing to see if the format is suitable for long term storage.. http://www.itl.nist.gov/div895/gipwog/StabilityStudy.pdf http://amath.colorado.edu/computing/NewtonLab/disks.html http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,116473,00.asp http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa11.htm
Have you seen the furniture in Office Depot? The shelves themselves won't last 30 years! I agree with the poster about SuperMediaStore. I've been using Ritek 8x DVD-R from there and haven't had any problems. So I ordered a 100 Pack of 52x Ritek CDR to see how they go.
