I have a new Sony 710a DVD burner and have been having mixed results using Sony's DVD+R DPR47LS2 blanks. About 1 out of every 2 fail CRC checks (i.e. some files are not readable). Most recently, I tried to back up about 2.0 gigs of data to a "data CD" using the Nero software that came with the drive (Nero Express 6, version 6.3.1.12 Sony edition). After about 11.5 hours of writing, it was only 53% completed with the burn and I needed to use my PC for other things so I had to stop it. Any idea what's going on? Here are the spec's of the blanks from DVDinfo:

Could having the DVD burner on its side cause any problems? I've been able to burn 6 for 6 video Verbatim-brand DVD-R's with none being bad, so is this just a case of the media being bad?? Why wouldn't Sony blanks work in a Sony drive? Also, I've installed the newest drive software from Sony.

    Thanks!
    Bob

Bob the success rate on the verbatim is about
the same as I'm getting. I've had sony DRU-700a
for about 6 months, its installed in an external
drive kit. I only use verbatim or Ritex media
(Ridata),your problem is probaly your media. Go to
wherever you got your verbatim's and buy a dvd+rw
to do your testing with, this should cut down on costs until you find your problem. I don't think
your burner was desinged to burn on its side that may be the problem. I've 1 slow burn with
my nero but I aborted the burn and restarted .
All I can tell you is stay on this forum and you will get a lot better help than I can give you
