Hello, I just soldered a Magic 4 chip in my sons PS2 with V7 board. In the first place it seemed to work fine, the first PSX (copie)game worked fine the original PS2 games and orignal PSX games also worked fine. other PSX copies were also tried out but they didn't boot up. Problem is I got the Magic 4 without any information or installation instruction so i used the installation instruction of the Magic 3 with V7 board (It looks almost the same besides de different chip. Does anyone can help me out??_X_X_X_X_X_[small]pa3faw[/small]

The fact is that i ordered a Messiah chip. but strange enough i received a Magic 4 (printed on the Chip)the chip is Quad Flat Pack. Underneath the PCB there are also 4 soldering strips. By the way i discovered that the problem lays in the type of CD-recordable. All PSX backup CD's with a blue sufrace won't boot. but all the CD's with silver surface boot perfect. so i tried to copy one of the blue CD to a silver CD and -bingo-! it worked. the silver is from the brand "Imation".

    Oke I'm from Den Haag..

I use Nero 5.5.9.17 for backing up DVD rom based games on the fly (DVD+r or DVD+rw). Sofar (35+ copies) no problems.
I use CloneCD (in combi with ClonyXl) for backing up CD-based games on the fly (CD-r). Sofar (25+ copies) no problems.

Strange: I most of the time use black backsided CD-r because I allways hear that the laser reads them better. They allways work for me so I stick to them.

Uptill now i only found the blue and silver data-surface. What brand is the black data-surface? Do i understand it correct? You burn the DVD-Rom on a DVD-R with Nero? or do burn the DVD-Rom on a CD-R? Does Nero 5.5.8.2 also support this feature?

DVD-rom games to DVD+r/+rw with Nero.
CD-rom games to CD-r with CloneCD.

The black backsided CD-r's are Parrot (or Princo black).

For DVD burns you need Nero 5.5.9.17 (or better --- newest 5.5.10.0 ). This version has better DVD copy options.

    Hey CamView,

I have the same problems with the same modchip Magic 4 ( I got it also from psxshop ) Could you please tell me where you got those "Imation" cd's from and how much they cost.

The only way I can play ps2 backups now is with my ps2 flipped on his back ;)

I don't think the brand is realy relevant as long as the carry a silver data-surface. I bought them at " Office Centre" in bulk-package(mostly found nearby the "Makro" all over Holland)I don't know were else the sell them. Perhaps you can try via Internet to trace a supplier of "Imation".

Thnx, I'll look for it tomorrow so i can finally play my backup games.. It's driving me mad

btw, http://www.opus.nl/ also has the "Imation silver" cds, so if I can't get them at Office Center i'll order them online.

Hong kong toys. For all wiring diagrams try
www.ps2chips.com.NH3 but i don't think they work. have wired 2 to ps2 and can not get them to work. if anyone has any luck please let me know.
