I am having troubles with a codec called the acm codec, when i try to reencode a movie in virtualdub, it says that the acm cannot decompress it, but i have a acm/ac3 all in one codec, and the normal ac3 codec, why wont it work? or what is a good codec for this?

I never manipulated such a movie, sorry. Maybe you can convert it to an .MPG with TEMPGenc, first (sometime, you have problems on the audio)?
Do you manage to load and convert it with TMPGenc? If so, which error Virtualdub gives you, now?
If not, I cannot suggest you anything more.
