Scenario: Playstation 1 (sorry, nowhere else to put this but a ps2 cd backups forum seems most appropriate), no mod chip, backup cd-r discs, and a version 3.3 gameshark CDX (the thingy with memory card and disc)
Will it work? i have read all of the threads on using gameshark as boot disc, but noone touches the subject of it working or not with psx/1. The psx i have is pretty old... maybe a year or so after it came out.
Thanks for help, and sorry if im out of place, but there was no specific ps1 thread... and post 15051 or whatever (the long one about the backups) only talks about ps2.
    Bye!

well if u have a PS1 Gameshark CD with ur game shark then u probably can, as i have action replay for ps2 and got a ps1 CD for it inside, i use that then swap for the backup ps1 game, and it works..

Has anyone tried it that knows? I've heard it works, but some say only with gameshark versions 2 and below, or above 2 with a special cheat that makes the disc stop spinning (too many cheats trick, or something like that)
i just need info on how to do it...
    thanks!

The Gameshark 3.3 w/ evil dongle will not work. I tried. It requires you to open the lid before the game will start, so even if you swap the disk you still have to make the PSX think it's open before you can continue. (Clarification: Choose "Start game" and it asks you to open the lid, and will not advance until the lid is opened. When you put in the archive before this it won't even attempt to read the disk unless you open the lid first.)

Try the Action Replay v4.20 for a bootdisk, sold in a green DVD sized box. It works great, stops spinning and all.

Well, I too have an older ps/x. And basically what you need is a Pro Action Replay. However, the may not make it the same way they used to. But in the back up of older psx consoles their is a slot that both gameshark and pro action replay used for codes storage. I never got my gameshark one to work for back-ups, but the Pro Action Replay did. But like i said, they may have tried to avoid using that back cartridge thing since the ps1 came out. Might find Pro Action Replay on E-bay. Hope that helps you some.

Oh, funny how i ran across a thread pertaining to this. I also forgot to mention, their is a spring that had to be held down. The spring is what told the playstation whether or not the top is closed. If you rigged it to think the top was always down, this would allow you to open the top with out the playstation shutting off. From there you could swap in the back-up. Though it is easy enough to rig the old playstation, all i used for a long time was a piece of paper and tape lol. Oh well best of luck on finding something that works
