Just recently got the compact ps2 console...just wondering: will the ps2 play the old ps1 games (retail/used, not pirated copies)? If yes, will the upcoming ps3 be able to play ps2 and/or ps1 games?

I've done some researching on the site and haven't really gotten a clear answer...I don't want to waste money if the old games are not playable on the newer ones...

yes, ps1 games play on the ps2. Not sure about the ps3, as there has not been a great deal of details released about it, other than its new "cell" processor and nvidia graphics card. that ps2 mini is pretty sweet though. I was blown away when I saw how small it was. like the size of a DVD case

    thanks for the quick response...

Yeah, the new, compact ps2 is cool, but it's a hassle to remove the disc without damaging it--the place where you place the disc in is similar to how you load a cd in a cd player...oh well, nothing's perfect....
