When I run my backups they stop and start. When I burn movies they are fine.I am using Pioneer 104 with latest firmware. Any Ideas. Thanks for the help.

i have had exactly the same problem. i backed up a game using dvd-r bought for 26p each. my conclusion crap media. the film i've backed up on this media are fine. for ps2 use good quality dvd-r. i use tdk, ok they cost alot more but won't cause you any problems.
ps does the dye come of the dvd-r it's a bit like a fingerprint

tdk 4x dvd-r about a pound a disk. its just for ps2 games.expensive but these disks will not fail you. carry on buying the cheap media for films it doesn't kick the crap out of the disk like the ps2.
ps the tdk are harder wearing than the originals.
