well what is the model number of your burner? Not all DVD burners are able to booktype discs. If it could then what you are doing is correct. You do it before you burn the disc.
You click on the little book icon in IMGburn, select your burner brand and then model number, then select drive for DVD+R, then a second box should come up that asks what to change it to in which you choose DVD-Rom

Your burner is probably a 2100AD. I'm having problems too, (well, some of my games run perfect, other are a little sketchy but still playable) so I can't help you. :/

You should be able to find the model type in either dvd decrypter or imgburn. For example, when I open dvd decrypter, I choose the Sony DVD RW DRU-510A as my drive. The DRU-510 part is the model of my burner. The A tells me what firmware I have.

Also, you don't need to booktype afaik when burning ps2 games. Maybe if you are using dvd + r? But I burn my games onto dvd - r at 4x and have had no issues so far.

booktyping helps with some systems, but is not required. And yes, it can only be done with DVD+R media.
another way to find out the burner model and firmware is to go to my computer, right click on the drive then go to the hardware tab. YOu can also find it under the control panel by going to system, then hardware, then device manager.click on the plus sign beside cd/dvd-rom drives. If you then right click that and choose properties (after it shows the model burner) you can look around and on one of the tabs it tells you the current firmware version you are using.
