I´m thinking to buy a magic 3.5 modchip for my PS2, but recently a friend told me this chips does not work with my model (30001). Could anybody confirm if does it work or not with the 30001 series...?

Well this is a tricky one:
    SCPH 30001 V1
    SCPH 30001 V2
    SCPH 30001 V3
    SCPH 30001 V4
    SCPH 30001R V5/V6
As you can see 30001 comes in all versions, but read this:

The Magic 3.5 ModChip is compatible with all PS2 consoles (USA/PAL/JAP).
It´s truly universal. Every Magic 3.5 ModChip works on all PS2 models.
For your order it´s necessary to select your PS2 Version, because the Magic 3.5 ModChip uses 3 different kinds of Clips (V1-V3/V4/V5-V7) for the installation. These Clips reduce the number of wires you have to solder.
With the Magic 3.5 ModChip you have to solder only 9 wires for V5/V6 and V7 PS2 consoles!

The Magic 3.5 works for all V4 systems, the Magic 3.1, a cheaper, newer, better, but a little more difficult to install option, does as well and it actually goes into sleep mode after booting games and is DVD9 ready.
