Hey man I don't recomend to mod your PS2 on your own if you haven't soldered before.
But.. if you still want to chi-mod your PS2, buy a Massiah 2, or DMS3 chip.
The installation depends on your PS2 serial number. (surf the net a little bit to find more about your PS2 vesrion)

If you manage a succesful modchip installation, you are able to original Copy PS2 and PS1 DvD/Cds to your PC (Nero) and simply play the backups in your console :)))

You also can play both of PAL/NTSC games and movie DVDs.

And.... if you want more... then you can also play DivX movies and MP3 audio format files into your PS2.

If you want more info just tell me ok? Best of luck man.

trust me... get it installed. i can pretty much guarentee you will ruin you ps2 with no soldering experience. its only like 45 dollars extra to get it installed so you will be saving money cus thats about how much wire, solder, iron, anti-static wristband, etc cost. ive done business with these guys http://www.norcalmods.com and everything works perfectly. you should really check em out.
