    Hi,

I'm getting a ps3 fat very cheap, its not hacked and firmware is updated. Now my main concern is that I know ps3 Fats are prone to YLOD and it seems everyone is suffering from it.

I know Slim is better and cooler but I'm getting the PS3 fat for almost less than half the price. System is third gen Fat CECHL05, and has both 65nm CPU/GPU. I've also heard that third gen PS3 fat are safer then first/sec gen fat ps3.

    Spec are http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/CECHLxx

Please tell me is it worth it or go for the slim. I need a system that can be downgraded and Slim down gradable is too expensive.

i have both fat and slim units and the L04 i have already been running 4 years now.. the only thing you will have to do is when you get yours is to open it up... clean it and replace the thermal grease... cant really say what grease to use but i used zalman thermal grease...

Here we use Arctic Silver 5 mostly. Also do your fat takes lot more energy than slim in terms of electricity billing?

i think slim takes around 20-40 watt less than fat... both peak at 250 watt i think..

And that is where you're wrong. Both systems can suffer from YLOD, slims just look different when having it. The 80 GB phat is nice to get.

Haven't heard of any YLOD cases in the slim. Although, Slims have lot more HDMI port problems than fat.
