ps3 lasers

    hi, could i put a laser from model CECH-G into model no CECH-J as i have a spare one. jhaye2x

    by the looks of this site it looks good
    only way I know of checking for sure is to take the drives apart

    but on this site

    it looks like they have different nand sizes
    might not mean anything to the lasers but as far as i know there is no list of what lasers come in what units

    i think you are stuck taking both apart far enough to see the laser #'s
    and to make it easier for you i would replace the whole assembly only 4 screws to take the laser assembly out and less chance of things not working

    p.s. if both drives look the same when you look at the main board on the bottom of the drive you could always just swap that board to make the other drive work in your other ps3 (these boards are matched to the ps3 main board)
    would be a lot easier than replacing the laser
    just make sure your connections are good when putting the board back in
