    Hi,

I am looking to buy a PSP and I'd like to use it to watch videos, particularly as a in-car player for my daughter. The question I have is the video quality PSP has compatible to the regular portable dvd players? Is it the same? Is it worse?

    thanks!

its OK, although i believe on 3.30 it has increased support for high res video, but i havnt used it because i use mine for games

it also depends on what quality u convert to

overall, i would say a portable dvd player is better quality, the thing is with psp, u can do other things

if u are looking to just watching movies, then get a portable dvd player

unless u buy umds and watch from those

if ur going to use a memory stick, if ur going to watch full length movies, they can be from 400 to 700 mb in my experience. they were converted from dvdrips, so i guess thats also a factor. if ur going to convert from a full rip, then i guess the movies would be over a gigabyte.

    Cool, thanks.

I am not going to you PSP just for movies. I thought instead of getting a media or dvd player, I get PSP and have best of both worlds :)

Also, if I take a movie which is a divx and convert to mp4, they size will be less than one gig, no?

    thanks,

i don't recommend a psp as ideal to use in a car with multiple people watch it would realy hurt your eyes as the screen is small the psp is something you would hold with 2 hand and put it close to your face

so i recommend something with a bigger screen like this
    http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/HDD-portable/p/sm/1002266072.htm
i have on of these it does hurt your eyes

it got a built in 20Gb hard drive and plays mpeg\1\2\4 and Divx
and 10.4 inch screen it also takes memory stick like psp xd,sd,mms and cf

Alot depends on the source file as well.
You can rip your VOB file off the DVD (around 4.5+ gigs) and convert to MP4.
Saves you having to lug your DVD,s around.
Compressions settings vary (if your familiar with AVI SYNTH SCRIPT this will help) i generally encode at 650 for video and 128 for audio, add afew tweaks and the resulting file is brilliant.
If you need any help just gimme ashout.
