Will this be writeable to all DVD DL+R drives including the ones in laptops? Or will we all have to buy certain models/brands?

I was wondering about this too.
But I don't think one firmware can be written to work with all brands of drives.

    eebeejay,

I agree. It makes me think of the old days of creating PS2 backups. The ol' Pioneer DVR-105 & A05 was the burners the have.

The models will be released soon. FW will NOT work on all models.

Thanks Modking30. I just read that on c4evaspeaks. That sucks. I guess I'll have to break down and buy an external unit for my laptop.

At least one of my 6 burners should take the firmware. If not, I guess I'll have 7.

What? There is going to be special firmware for specific burners just to burn 360 games? Why is this needed? Is there more info on this?

I saw this on another forum so it's just a cut a paste job.

As you may or may not be aware, the new XGD3 format has a larger capacity than a standard DVD+R DL disc so it has become virtually impossible to make a 100% backup of the disc.

They said it was impossible. They said that CFW was finished. They were wrong.

C4E presents yet another world first to the Xbox scene, the iXtreme DVD Burner FW which now increases the capacity of a standard dual layer DVD+R DL to a FULL 8.7GB !

    Features:

100% Customized burner firmware - never been done before !
Full 8.7GB 100% Backups on standard Dual Layer DVD+R DL
Flashable via Jungle Flasher (Upcoming Version)
    No IMGBurn Errors
    No CIV errors
    Passes all current checks

    Requirements:

Verbatim Dual Layer DVD+R DL compatible only at this time
    ********** SATA DVD Burner

Note: The model of the DVD Burner will be announced shortly. There are several different versions of this model and we want to make sure that each one can be patched before we tell you to go out and buy.

We are so far supporting 4 different versions of this drive, we want to make sure we can cover as many as possible.

There are LOTS of this particular drive available and the RRP is less than $25 USD. On the bright side At least everyone will be forced to upgrade to a decent burner now

Testing is fully underway. The current LT+ 2.0 requires no update (except Samung which will require a small change). As an example we bought the troublesome Forza4 (doesn't work with previous burning method - failed various checks), ripped to a backup using 0800 v3 and burned using the new iXtreme Burner Max and have been playing with it on XBL for several hours with the same LT+ 2.0 that was released last week.

Coming very soon to a burner near you (DO NOT ASK WHEN!)

ok, but really, i thought a DVD+R DL was a DVD+R DL. it didn't matter if it was a verbatim or memorex or any other for that matter?

if i'm wrong, please school me.

I posted about it here: -

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f...lows_you_to_burn_100_of_an_xgd3_image-912668/

It's needed because XGD3 ISOs are 8.13 GiB and the capacity of a DVD+R DL is only 7.96 GiB. The way we're having to burn them now means we're only burning about 97% of the ISO to the disc before it runs out of space, which obviously was going to cause some problems, especially with the new LBA hash checks in Forza 4. This PC burner firmware somehow allows you to overburn the discs (I'm assuming) so that the full ISO will fit on there.

as for why verbatim, its because that is what c4e recommends, and that is what he is writing the firmware to be compatible with, now i wish he would at least give us the burner brand so we can go ahead and buy one, that way when the firmware releases we would be ready.

So as far as we know, only Forza 4 is not able to be burnt with normal drives. I really hope this new security junk isn't put on every new game. I really don't care to buy a new burner when in a couple months I'm dropping discs.
