I have a Magic 3.1 that I purchased about 8 months ago to put into my PS2. Well the person that was going to solder it for me fell through and i never got it put in. But just recently i found someone else who will help me do it. My question is, should I go ahead and put it in, or would it be more worthwile to try and sell it and put in a DMS3 so that I won't have any problems with future games. I really don't have the money but if it would be stupid to install the magic, ill do what i can.

I just bought the swapmagic disks and they work GREAT. I use dvd-decrypter to make an iso image of the ps2 game then I burn the iso image to a dvd-r. You put in the DVD swap disk, reboot, it loads it, you put in the slide card, slide it to the left, tray will come out a bit, pull the tray about 3/4 the way out, put in burned ps2 game, slide tray back in manually, put slide card back in and make tray come out again, slide the slide card a TAD to the right so it clips over a little clip and then slide it to the right and presto you will hear it kind of lock and you hit the X button and start playing.
    Good luck

Well, if you're worried about it not working, see how much you can sell it for. If it's a reasonable price, then go for it and grab a DMS3 (www.modchipworld.com) or a Matrix Infinity.

i'd rather not use swap discs i'd like to just have a direct boot. Has anyone had any problems with booting the newest games off of a magic 3.1 and does anyone see games in the future not being able to work on it?

there is nothing wrong with installing your magic 3.1. Have your friend install it and off you go. I have not heard of any new or weird encryption on any new PS2 games that are coming out so I think you should be safe.

Are you going to play just games and movies?
Or are going to get into divx and media players?

The number of solder points shouldn't matter to him if he's getting someone else to do it.
