I understand that my DVD originals are DUAL LAYER and they exceed 4.7G.
In theory will my SONY DVD DRX-500UL be able to write DUAL LAYER DVD's When they become avaible on the market?

No. Recordable Dual Layer DVD's are not out. If they ever do come out, (which I highly doubt)it will be around 5 years from now. Hence, your DVD Recordable player now, or any of them in that matter, dont even know the format or have the write drive mechanisms to make it work.

When dual-layer recordables come to markets? Never.

Dual-layer discs are made by pressing (not burning) _two_ thin optical discs and joining them together. Both layers have slightly different wavelength and therefor the player can read the other layer as well.
