quicktime won't open mpeg file

Hi there

I have this .mpeg file that I downloaded from the internet. Qiocktime won't open it at all the Errormessage sais :...because it's not a file that Quicktime understands.
I tryed opening it with VLC but then all I get is sound.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong??

 

sounds to me like u have a codec problem. try opening the file in GSpot to find out which codec u need. you can get it here http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

 

Well i'm a mac user, so I guess that program won't work for me...?

 

what type of file are you trying to open? mpeg 1 mpeg2 or mpeg4. im not sure how u would find this out on a mac, but i no in windows all i have to do is right click it select properties.
