read problems with sony burner

    heres my problem
    the drive will not read a cd or blank cd
    also will not read a dvd,
    but it will read a blank dvd-r and it will burn to it.

    i can burn a movie, but have to powerdown when its done to get the disc out of the drive. The disc is fine after this and will play anywhere.

    I have updated the driver and firmware

    any suggestions Thanks

    What software are you using?

    Sounds like you may benefit from an ASPI update as well. Here's a good link with instructions and the download:

    first i have nero

    next i went to the link and found out that my ASPI was not there (said it wasnt working). So i followed the instructions and got it loaded and now it says it is -installed and working-. Thanks that site is very informative.

    Now i tried the drive again but the same problem
    cant read a cd or dvd
    can burn a blank dvd-r
