I have a Sony 16x dvd-rom drive and it has been reading at 16x since I got it but all of a sudden it has been reading at 1-2x and I cannot figure out why. It says it is reading at maximum speed but it isn't and I have even tried unpluging the drive itself and plugging it back been but that didnt work. If anybody know what is going ont hen please post back

Have you checked your IDE channel settings in your device manager. Both should be set to DMA. If they say PIO reset them to DMA. If they won't stay on DMA, remove them from the list and reboot so Windows reinstalls them in DMA mode properly.

Glad it worked. Thats usually the first thing to check if your backup process slows down.
