I have a laptop hard drive that is shot. I think the bearings went out. Does anyone know of a place that can get the data off the HDD? I Google'd but all the site looked really sketchy.

    Thanks

It's doable, but very expensive. In the UK it'd be £200-£300 for a drive, or in the US perhaps $300-$400. Only get the data if it's ABSOLUTELY vital. I've had to suffer 500GB through to this.
    Solution:back it up!

I tend make that a habit but my father has yet to. This is from his laptop. He's fairly adamant that he has to have the data. Thats kinda the cost I was assuming. Do you know any names of any of any places that do this service?

Not used them, but always remember you get what you pay for.
Also remember to check the privacy clauses in the Terms and conditions.
