Recently bought a Sony DVD recorder but most of the movies I want to record off cable are protected. Also would like to record some movies from DVD for personal use. New to DVD recording so any help would be appreciated.

i use clonedvd 2 + anydvd 99.9% of the time there should be a coupon code coming any day now that gets the price to about 49.00 for the combo. just use the 21 day free trial till then

    heres some info

    read on the forums also

dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, isn't updated anymore so they need the help of an updated ripper like dvd fab decrypter(freeware) or anydvd(free trial but you pay after 21 days) for it to work.

ripit4me was pulled from the sites but still works on most movies. heres that guide(freeware)

so you have several choices you can use dvd fab to rip dvd shrink to transcode and dvd decrypter or nero to burn ,this is all freeware.

    or

you can use the easiest program out there clonedvd 2 + anydvd (free 21 day trial) This is my pic. you can download here

    aabbccdd,

Thanks for the info. From the replies to just 2 threads I posted I have a lot of information to absorb. Being a 'newbie' and new to to DVD recording a good part of the info is beyond me at this point. I checked out both the clonedvd 2 + anydvd links and from what I read they are no longer available?? They do seem like my best bet as you suggested. Will be looking into it further. Thanks again!

Just looked at the Slysoft link. It's good. You open download and get the AnyDVD. Downloads are according to program. When installed you have a 21 day trial. If you like it, you gotta buy it.

DVDFab HD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn are free and about all you'll need to do a backup. They're not quite as easy as AnyDVD and CloneDVD2, but lately have been more effective. They're definitely not difficult.
