im trying to make a backup copy of an XP instalation disk
so far the disk is un-instalable because of some scratches,
however minor.. not all, but several files are un-readable.
thus, i cant install a clean copy of XP (home)
    on a refubished machine
*not one but two disks are in the same condition*
i'm sure they are recoverable though.
i've heard that ISO Buster is good at recovering data from disks
but i'm not sure its appropriate.
my question is ...what's the best software application for recovering files from a physically damaged disk?
and being an operating system, the recovery ,for instalation purposes,
    might be pretty critical.

    any advice?

also: is resurfacing the disk even remotely sensible by any means?
im sure you could run into some nightmares...lol

Now there is one method which isn't breaking any rules all you need to do is borrow someone else's disk that is the same as yours and as long as you use your CD key it makes no difference :)
