I have PS3 40gb internal hdd and PC USB 200gb external hdd. I have succeeded installing it to my PS3 external hdd, but then it goes on and try to install update data files to internal hdd that does not have enough room. Then i error message "that i do not have enough hdd space". Can i revert update install only to the external hdd instead?

As far as I know, even though you have the "disc" on external hdd, any games which require game data to be installed can only be installed on the internal hdd. So only way is to remove and old game data or saves etc from your internal.

Remember to get one which is 9.5mm in height. Some 640gb, half of 750gb and most 1tb hdds are 12mm in height and are too large to fit in a ps3.
