Well let’s put it this way I need some advice on whether or not I should put money into a reflow machine and reball station or not.

Background: Love fixing smartphone, Xboxes, (other electronics)

I want to know some risks or tips that anyone could have on this subject matter. To be honest I love doing this stuff have experience with hardware repair and fiddling. Though I’m starting to doubt whether it is a good idea to put money into fixing broken Xboxes that i buy from friends in order to sell back. I’m thinking that I can use if for other applications too, but looking at the life that an Xbox has after a repair started to give me my doubts.

So please tips, advice, experience, anything that you think can add to the conversation would be great thanks!

i've been fixing xbox's for many years and i own a rework station, re-balling is a very hard task, and is not for the common fiddler, the success rate for a practiced re-baller is only about 50 percent, reflows only last 3 months or so at best, so if you are planning to resale you will end up with a lot of unhappy customers. i used to use my station a lot, but over the last 6 months its slowing down to an occasional use, my opinion would be no based on present needs!

With the prices of the phat xboxes going down since the Slim has been released it's not really worth the efford to reball an Xbox 360 anymore.

Ok say Im taking your advice on the whole thing with the difficulty level of the reball and yea I understand the whole unsatisfied customers thing. So what do you and everyone else recommend I get into doing because Im here to get into the swing of fixing and modding for profit in my local area nothing online. I was thinking about flashing other peoples xboxes and showing them how to backup their own games (not pirating), and such. Any ideas?

that is the road to travel, the slims are starting to have failing lasers, learn the ins and outs of the drive problems and it will make you plenty of extra cash, i do 15 to 20 drive repairs each week, and 10 or so mods each week, that earns me about an extra 1000 just doing that every week!

harvest the drives in case you need one for parts, strip out the copper and aluminum, find a local case modder get a few pennies for the case and toss whats left in the dumpster!

Just out of curiosity how much do you charge for modding and repairs, if you dont mind me asking. I use to charge $30 for mods with a game but ever since moving to Texas people just want it done for next to nothing.

I figured what I was charging was decent since I never had any issues before but I refuse to do any kind of xbox work for $10. Ive thought of getting a reflow station but Ill take your advice as well. Thanks for the advice you gave in this thread it was really helpful.

Oh and last but not least I have an Xbox that i flashed and somehow screwed up along the way (which I still have to figure out where) and got RROD from a bad flash. What is the problem. Im thinking that I have the wrong key for it because I might have mixed it up with another Benq that I was doing. Is there anyway for me to get the key from the motherboard? and NO the box isnt Jtagable so no i cant do that. Thanks!

jungle flasher keeps all the keys that you have extracted, so if you read the key JF has it, you may just have to do trial and error until you figure out which one it is!
