Hey, I've been reading these forums for a while, and don't think I've seen this come up. I have a WiiKey, and have it on region override. When Nintendo releases a new Wii update, should I set it back to the original region? Will it being set on region override confuse the Wii update? (I'd prefer not to have a bricked Wii)

No it doesn't make any difference to firmware updates. The only firmware related problems with region override come from using discs from one region with firmware updates (eg Super Paper Mario and others), on Wiis that do not have the latest version. For example if you have a mod chip which allows region override you try an out of region game like Mario Strikers NTSC (which has 2.1U firmware on it) on a PAL Wii (with say 2.0E firmware), then it would apply the newer firmware regardless of the region, and you would get 2.1U (NTSC) firmware on a PAL Wii (which should be 2.1E or 2.2E), and thereby 'bricking' your out-of-region Wii. This is currently the only way to 'brick' a Wii, simply having region override turned on while updating will not cause it to apply the wrong firmware. However there is nothing to stop you from turning it off anyway just for peace of mind, keep in mind however that when you change any settings on the WiiKey, when you put the config disc back in it will look like all the settings have reset to default, this is just the way the disc works and doesnt mean tha your WiiKey settings have actually reset. :)

As a good general rule ALWAYS update your Wii from Wiiconnect24 before trying ANY new games. That way you significantly reduce the risk of accidental bricking.
