is it softsub or hardsub ?
if its hard, the easiest way is cropping.
if its soft, don't load the subs file

soft is when you can switch it on and off. the subtitle is stored in a text file, usually in ssa or srt. multiplexed together with the video.

hard is when the subtitle is burn on the video like in photoshop, you paint on the picture without a layer. its now part of the video. you can't swith it off.

with hard you need to crop. lets say, in virtualdub use null transform filter then select cropping.

Thank you. this one is hard. I'll do some more research on using virtualdub.

Shiroh I tried cropping in virtualdub but the outcome is not great at all, it crops out about one third of the bottom of the screen. I'll just find another version of this movie.
    thanx for your advice.
