    Hi

I am a total nooB and I've been searching the internet, high and low, for guides on converting DVD to Xvid video with Ogg Vorbis audio. I cant find anything of this anywhere.

Could someone point me in the right direction please? Is there a guide for this particular procedure from start to finish?

    thanx

What container? For vorbis audio I guess you have a choice between ogm, mkv, dsm, mp4 and nut with I guess ogm and mkv making the most sense.

Basically you just encode your video as per usual, encode the audio to vorbis with say BeSweet or HeadAC3e and then mux the two.

the best way to encode vorbis is using quality management. but using this the file size is unpredictable. just like using constant quant for video.

so i would suggest encoding the audio first and fit the video.

you can get vorbis 1.1 at
    http://www.rarewares.org/ogg.html

get oggdropxpd, you can't mess up.
and if you're encoding 5.1 audio i think its better to use aac

like celtic_d said, mkv or ogm seems to be the better choice here.
to mux you can use mkvtoolnix, bundled with it is mmg, its gui.
    or simply virtualdubmod.

    hi guys

    thanx for this.

i have tried got to convet the audio to ogm but it does not seem to mux to the video in virtualdubmod. the stats windows show 0 for audio.

i'll have a look at mkvtoolnix and get back to you.

    cheers

set direct stream copy for vdubmod.
load the ogg vorbis audio, under stream.

make sure you save as ogm/mkv.

its the same thing if you're converting and using avi. mkv and ogm is a container. all you need is to mux.
