Reviews/Opinions on the Lite-On LVW5045?

Maybe this is the ultimate recorder? Big HD, copies onto any format, mfg by a well-known drive maker. Your opinion welcome...I'm trying to decide between a Panasonic e85 and this Lite-on.

I have a satellite dish, so I assume I'd put this recorder between the Satellite set-top box and the TV.
The problem with timer recording is that I'd need to set the Recorder (Lite-On or Panny) to Chanel 3, then physically put the satellite on the right channel prior to recording. Doesn't anyone make a recorder capable of recording from satellite channels? Sorry for the rant.

I just ordered one today from Comp u plus. I have been looking at a few and decided to go with this because of features, price, and ease of use. Nothing comes close to it as far as price and from what I read the ez-guide on screen menu is very simple to navigate from.......

Got it yesterday.........so far everything looks good. I haven't tried all the options yet, don't know if I ever will, but I've recorder off the tv to the HDD with ease- burned a RW by copying the tv show from the HDD to the RW. The main reason I picked this one was easy of use with the ezguided on screen menu. You can use this without ever looking at the manual. Picture quality is also good, but I purchase the option component video cables to hook to my tv. Good luck with your decision.

I know...I've seen the specs on that page. Thing is,
someone on another forum said his 5045 only had mono audio
coming from the tuner. I was sort of surprised at this
so I just wanted to confirm from other owners that their
5045 did indeed have a stereo TV tuner.

Wow, I can't believe it! I ordered it Tuesday from Comp-U-Plus after reading your post. I got it today Thursday morning! I was nervous cause after I ordered it I then read the some of their bad reviews. They have 4 out of 5, guess I should have read the 4% good ones first.

Anyway, I was just playing with my new liteon 5045 and so far so good.

One problem, and maybe I don't understand, is that I have Digital Adelphia Cable with all the channels (up into the 300's). The DVR TV Tuner only goes up to 125 channels. So how do I get HBO and the higher to work with the auto record thingy or the VCR+ (never used that before).

Since I can't set up over 125 channels I went back to putting the DVR on channel 3 and using the cable remote to change channels.

So I can now record 198 hours of TV on one channel unless I use the cable remote to change channels. Well, I have to work on this problem.

Also the quality of SLR is really bad. So for the old family videos I'm going to use HQ (1 hr). That's a lot of DVD discs but the quality will be the best it can be. Some of my old video's are 30 years old and have already lost some of their quality. Back when I bought a camera it was just amazing to see a video recording on a TV screen. It only recorded in Black and White in the beginning. At least I didn't start of with BETA.

Okay, I'm going back to discover more features! So far I love it and Comp-U-Plus for sending it so fast!

    Hi Freida

Did you check to see if tuner is Stereo?

Let's see I'm looking at the instructions right now. It says:

    For Better Sound Quality:

Connecting to a Stereo Amplifier or receiver and then it shows
    a L/R Audio cable or

Connect to a Dolby Digital and DTS decoders to enjoy
    surround sound or

Connect the Digital Out Coaxial cable

It says it has 5.1 channels and hmmmm Oh here its talks
    about the audio

It does not support ID3 tags or MP3-Pro files but does
support MP3, JPG, BMP, WAV, WMA

    Oh, there it is, Audio:

    Stereo: Dolby Surround Sound DTS

    MPEG PCM Bit Stream

    DTS Out
    Enable/Disable digital theater mode

Cool, I think I answered that question! Yes! If you order from
Comp-U-Plus just do Ground. They had it in the mail the
same day and I got it the next!

Let's keep in touch so we can help each other with questions!
    Lots of features here!

    deanbirch,

I went to Pricegrabber and compared prices first and I see it
there now. Of course it is $5.00 cheaper than it was last week!
and still the lowest price. Oh and by the way, it was packaged
with the cables and remote. I think they have a warehouse in
    North CA.

Actually, all that is related to the audio section of the recorder itself. It doesn't really pertain to the tuner per say. You might have to tune the recorder
to a known stereo station & see if it's passed through to
    your TV in stereo.

Yes, your right. I just went in and put a CD in that is in stereo and the TV can't see Stereo and it does sound mono.

hmmm would it help if I used the S-Video cable? I try to find one and try it. If I go straight through with the cable box it see's stereo.

    hmmm?

Yeah, but playing a CD or DVD is actually bypassing the
tuner. That would be seperate. Many recorders will
playback in stereo, but their tuners that recieve TV
    signals are in mono.

Well, I'm confused! How can it say that it does Dolby movie theater sound and not be in stereo? Maybe I need to connect the sound to my Stereo receiver? Tomorrow I'll try the S-Video and hook it to my Dolby receiver.

I haven't been able to make any sound other than mono come out of it!

Freida, you have to tune in a Stereo TV broadcast with the LiteOn and listen to see if you here Stereo! Also the LiteOn display should have a Stereo TV indicator that would light up when receiving Stereo signal, just like a VCR would.

I did that and it doesn't lite up or say the word Stereo on the TV display or sound like stereo. It sounds like mono. That's if the signal goes through my digital cable box then the Liteon 5045 and then to the TV.

If the signal goes through my cable directly into the TV then I can hear and see Stereo in the display on the TV screen. That's on the station that is in Stereo.

But I have yet to use a S-Video cable.

The S-Video cable has nothing to do with audio.
Just video. OK....(not figuring the tuner just yet),
If you play a CD or DVD, it will play in stereo even
if the tuner is mono like on other recorders. So, if
the DVD is playing in mono, then something's not hooked
up right, or there's a problem with the 5045.
