Treated myself to a ps3 today and i've hooked it up on my samsung lcd through HDMI. So i was looking through all the video options and came across a "RGB range" setting. This was defaulted as "Limited" but when i switched it to "Full" it seemed the colours improved a lot, more intense black for example.

So my question is , can anyone explain me what the range does and does having this set to a "wrong" setting can it be harmful for my tv ?

Thanks to any responds in advance.

it wont hurt the tv. Usually if you are seeing a pic than it is fine.. Most tvs will not project an image if it is not reconized...It displays the higest range of colors possible. On lower quality TVs the picture can get murky with full RGB range...the equivalent of plugging your computer into a regular TV screen. The limited setting is largely for TVs that can't crank above 720p or so and display a good HD picture
