long explanation, wanted to get all relevant facts in:

2 days ago, i d/led DVDx and installed it. I then had it rip a DVD to an mpeg that could be made to a VCD. This all went fine, and the next day, when I checked it, it seemed to have ripped. The output file, however, was no where to be found. I looked closer at the DVDx window, and the time counter said 1:58:53, 5 sec short of the 1:58:58 length of video file that was being ripped. I dunno if thats significant, just thought i'd say it.

I searched for any files modified in the last 3 days, and all those files added up to only 50 MB. All files over 200 MB are accounted for, and so are all mpeg files. In short, no file can be found, at least through explorer or the MS-DOS prompt, yet i'm still missing a GB of HD space. Does anyone know whats wrong? Can I at least get my GB of space back?

    TIA,
    Pio

you could try (if you haven't already)go to START,Find,Files or Folders and type in 'temp' or 'recent'.You may find your gig there. Can i suggest using Smart ripper,DVD2AVI and Tmpgenc.
It makes a pretty good vcd with few hassels.
